Dosage

The usual adult dose of Propranolol are as follows:

For Hypertension

• Initial dose of 40 to 80mg twice a day
• Maintenance dose of 120mg to 240mg per day
• Maximum dose of 640mg per day

For Angina

• Daily dose of 80mg to 320mg in divided doses
• Maximum dose of 320mg per day
• Arrhythmia
• Daily dose of 30mg to 160mg per day in divided doses
• Myocardial infarction
• Initial dose of 40mg 3 times daily for 1 month, then increased to 60mg to 80mg 3 times per day
• Maintenance dose of 180mg to 240mg per day in divided doses
• Maximum dose of 240mg per day
• Migraine
• Initial dose of 80mg per day in divided doses
• Maintenance dose of 160mg to 240mg per day
• The dosage may be increased for optimum benefit
• If satisfactory response is not achieved in 4 to 6 weeks after reaching maximum dose, the treatment should be gradually stopped over several weeks.
• Tremor
• Initial dose of 40mg twice daily or thrice daily
• Maintenance dose of 120mg to 320mg per day
• Optimum tremor reduction is achieved with 120mg per day dose
  

Anxiety

Daily dose of 10mg to 40mg twice or thrice daily.

Maximum dose of 160mg per day

A patient must strictly follow the prescribed dosage. Note that a physician may occasionally change the prescribed dose to achieve optimum results. Beloc tablet is taken orally and swallowed whole. A tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, about 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal intake. A patient's blood pressure must be checked often while taking this medication.

Skipping doses nor suddenly stopping the medication is not recommended. Sudden discontinuation of therapy may make the condition worse. Tapering of dose is required for discontinuation of therapy. If a dose is missed, it must be taken as soon as remembered. But if the next dose is less than 4 hours away, then the missed dose must be skipped. The dose must not be increased or doubled to make up for the missed dose.
