Pimecrolimus isused to treat certain skin conditions suchas eczema (atopic dermatitis) in people who should not use or havenot responded to other eczema medications (e.g.,topical steroids). Eczema is an allergic-type condition thatcauses red, irritated, and itchy skin. This drug works by changing theskin's defense (immune) system, thereby decreasing the allergicreaction that causes eczema. Pimecrolimus belongs to a class of drugsknown as topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs).

Mild burning or irritation at the application site may occur during thefirst few days of treatment. Headache may also occur. If any of theseeffects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Before using pimecrolimus, tell your doctoror pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have anyother allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which cancause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for moredetails.
Before usingthis medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history,especially of: current infections (e.g., mononucleosis), use of lighttherapy (e.g., UVA or UVB), skin infections(e.g., herpes, chickenpox, shingles, warts), immunesystem problems.
