Entecavir (Baraclude) tablet is an anti cancer medicine used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) in adults as well as in more than 2 years of age of children having active liver disease.
It has not identified yet whether this medicine reduces the probability of getting liver cancer or damage. In addition, it is also not known if this is safe to be given in children of less than 2 years.
Important Safety Information:
If you have hepatitis B virus infection, then it may get worse within 6 months after stopping to take Baraclude (0.5mg) (Entecavir Tabs).
Always take the medicine as prescription. Never, stop taking it without consulting your doctor or healthcare provider.
Your doctor or healthcare provider should keep a close watch of your health. He should also perform regular blood tests or checking if the live works properly when you stop taking it.
If you are suffering from HIV infection while taking it, the HIV virus gets resisted to some HIV medicines and start resisting medicines. Hence, always gets an HIV test before start taking it.
Serious Side Effects:
Lactic acidosis is a condition of development of acid in the blood. This serious medical condition is developed in people, who have been taking this medicine. It can cause death; hence it should be treated in hospitals.
Call the doctor at once if you start feeling very weak or tired, trouble in breathing, unusual muscle pain, stomach pain along with nausea and vomiting, cold in arms and legs, dizzy, light-headed or irregular heartbeat.
Serious liver problems can occur in the patients, who have been taking this anti cancer medicine. It can cause serious liver problems such as hepatotoxicity, hepatomegaly (liver enlargement) and Steatosis (fat in the liver). In addition, the combination of Hepatomegaly and Steatosis is a severe medical emergency that can lead to death.
Call your doctor if the white part of your eyes and your skin starts turning yellow (jaundice); bowel movements are light in color; urine turns dark.
Also call the doctor if you do not want to eat food for long days; feel nausea or have pain in lower part of stomach.
If you are a female with overweight, or take nucleoside analogue medicines for long time, you can suffer from lactic acidosis or any other serious liver problems.
Conditions To Tell Your Doctor Before Taking Entecavir Tablet:
If you have any kidney problem, the dose or schedule of taking Baraclude need to be changed.
If you have already taken the treatment or medicine for HBV before, you should tell this to your doctor. Some people, who have been taking the treatment from HBV, may develop resistance to this medicine. Hence, it may show less benefit. Your doctor should test the hepatitis B virus level in your blood.
If you are suffering from any other medical condition.
If you are pregnant or planning to conceive as it may harm the unborn baby.
If you breast-feed or palling for the same.
