Zoldronic Acid is an anti cancer medicine that belongs to the group of bisphosphonates. It is widely used to cure high blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia) that may occur with cancer. This is used to treat different bone problems with cancer chemotherapy. It can be given to patients having multiple myeloma, breast cancer or lung cancer. It lowers the high calcium level into the blood by lowering down the amount of calcium released into the blood from bones. In addition, it also slows down the breakdown of bones to prevent bone fractures. Methods To Use:
Zoledronic Acid Vial is given into a vein by injection as directed by physician or doctor for at least 15 minutes. The dosage of the treatment depends on the medical condition of the patient including the kidney functions and responses to the treatment.
If you are taking this medicine at home by yourself, then you should learn all the usage instructions or preparation directions provided by your doctor or health care professional. If you are taking herbal preparation
If you are allergic to food, medicine or other substances
If you are aspirin-sensitive
If you had any severe allergic reaction or kidney problems
If you have any bone infection, low blood calcium levels, asthma, heart failure, etc.
If you have any liver problem
If you are dehydrated
If you have low blood volume or high blood calcium levels
If you have poor dental hygiene or will be having any dental procedure
If you had or will have any chemotherapy treatment
If you are having any medicine related to jaw bone problems
Medicines That May Interact With Zoledronic Acid:
Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following other medicines:
Corticosteroids like prednisone or angiogenesis inhibitors such as bevacizumab as the jawbone problems are increased
Aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin, calcitonin, furosemide, etc. as low blood calcium level risks are increased
Medicines that harm the kidney such as cyclosporine, nonsteroidal, etc. In addition, anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen as the risk of kidney problems are enhanced. Ask your doctor if these medicines may harm the kidney
Another medicines having zoledronic acid or bisphosphonate as they increase the level of side effects of zoledronic acid.
Difficulty falling asleep
Itching, redness or pain
Loss of appetite
Red, swollen, or teary eyes
Swelling around the eyes
Swelling, redness and in the vagina
White patches in the mouth
White vaginal discharge
In addition to the above side effects, there are some other serious effects. If you experience them, call your doctor immediately:
Irregular heart beat
Numbness in the jaw
Painful or swollen gums
Sore in the mouth
Swelling of the eyes, tongue, throat, ankles, or lower legs
Twitches, or cramps
Upper chest pain
Precautions To Keep In Mind While This Drug:
Some people have serious jawbone problems. Hence, your doctor should check the mouth carefully before starting this medication. Always, tell your dentist before having any dental work that you are using this medicine. To prevent any jawbone problems, you must take regular dental exams. Also, learn to keep your teeth healthy. If you feel any jaw pain, inform your doctor as well as dentist right away.
Before going to have any surgery, tell your doctor about it and all other products from prescription drugs to nonprescription drugs you use during the surgery.
As this medicine make feel dizzy, never driver or use any machinery or perform any activity that needs alertness. You should limit alcoholic beverages.
As this medicine may harm your kidney and its functions, especially in the elderly, consult your doctor for more information. For keeping your kidney healthy, drink lots of liquids or fluids.
