Erlotinib is usedto treat lung and pancreatic cancer. It works by slowing orstopping the growth of cancer cells.
How to use ErlotinibTablet
Take this medication by mouth onan empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal) asdirected by your doctor, usually once daily.
The dosage is based onyour medical condition, response to treatment, and other medicationsyoumay be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about allthe products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs,and herbal products).
Medications thatlower stomach acid (such as antacids, H2 blockersincluding ranitidine) may prevent erlotinib from working. Askyour doctor or pharmacist how to use these medications safely with erlotinib.
Diarrhea, dryskin, muscle/joint pain, mouth sores, unusual eyelash growth,or eyedryness/redness/irritation may occur. Diarrhea can besevere. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe medication torelieve diarrhea. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell yourdoctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that yourdoctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that thebenefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using thismedication do not have serious side effects.
Beforetaking erlotinib, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you areallergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product maycontain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or otherproblems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before usingthis medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history,especially of: liver disease, kidneydisease, stomach/intestinal disease (such as ulcers, diverticulosis).
