IV Fluids - Intravenous Infusion
There are many medications that can only be given by an intravenous (IV) injection or infusion. Either a tube or needle is used for sending the medication directly into the vein. IV catheter in IV administration is inserted into the vein.
1. The IV administration is used in cases when food or water cannot be consumed by mouth and therefore nutrition is given through it. It is also used for rehydration solutions.
2. Intravenous means directly into the vein.
3. It can be divided into three types: isotonic, hypotonic, and hypertonic.
4. It can be packaged in plastic bags or glass bottles.
